About me
My birth certificate lists my name as John Morrison, but I am John Doe, too.
American by birth, Christian by the grace of God. Raised in Riverside, California, settled in Eagle River, Alaska. Veteran, U.S. Army, 1971-1974 and 1985-1991.
Father of two awesome daughters, both as gifted as they are beautiful. A believer since my youth in “one man, one woman, one lifetime, one marriage”, I find to my consternation that I have been to the altar four times- truly a testimony to the old adage that “remarriage is the triumph of hope over experience”. I have tentatively selected for my epitaph “Was never afraid to be a fool for love”. My current (and final!) marriage is a testimony to God’s incomprehensible, unimaginable mercy, compassion, love, and humor.
Yes, that is a bagpipe I’m playing. My father’s parents both came over here from the same village in Scotland. Dad never made a fetish of being Scottish, but our family did attend some of the local Highland Games when I was a kid. The bagpipes were, of course, impressive, and I had always thought how neat it would be to learn how to play them. After about 30 years of telling people that, I finally realized how stupid I sounded. “Either DO it”, I told myself, “or shut up about it!”
So… obviously, I did it, and it has been a source of great satisfaction. I do not play in a pipe band, and I have not kept up with it regularly, but I accomplished something that had been of lifelong interest, purely for my own amusement and amazement.
Rather than boring you with more bio, I trust the blog will give you a pretty good picture of who I am. If you think you know, you don’t. Thanks for stopping by!
John,
From another Orthodox blogger, kudos on a nice site. We’ll add those from your parish to our prayer list. My own semi-son, a student I sort of adopted, just got back from Iraq thankfully. All the best and pray for me,
Kevin
