Not one of the major feasts of the Church, but certainly THE feast of the Advent season. The songs of Vespers last night revealed more of the insider “family” knowledge of who the real St. Nicholas was, and the children always love to run downstairs afterwards to find the foil-wrapped chocolate “coins” in their shoes, along with a tangerine or orange.
Fr. Stephen has a brief note about the day, but I would most strongly recommend as a rewarding read his post from yesterday, “Culture and the fullness of the Faith“. Really very good. Learned that he came to Orthodoxy from a Pentecostal/Puritan-influenced background.
Time to run. Happy feast day!
