Hall of Shame, U.S. Congress category

Almost as many qualifying nominations as there are members of Congress. Dishonorable Mentions go to all the venal, corrupt and self-serving Republicans who have helped nail the lid on the coffin of the Reagan Revolution. Here is a sobering post on that by Jim Geraghty at “OnTap”.

As bad as that is, though, at least it is limited to domestic politics. The Democrats take the prize in recognition of their calculated damage to the country on the world scene. You want to know how old I am? Old enough to remember a time when the rule accepted by all was “Partisan politics stops at the border”. That old. So, the winner hands (thumbs?) down is Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for her trip to Damascus and the suggestion that the dictator (and others of his ilk) might as well simply hold direct talks with the Democrats, who presumably own the future.

Well, the future sure looked better for them back then than it does now, eh? Jules Crittenden writes about the Democrats’ dread at the impending new session (Pajamas Media).

“It has to be a bleak August, when the anti-war faction has to think about that “What I did on My Summer Vacation” essay and realize it is a dreary list of failures and blanks. It has to be a dread September arriving, with its threatened onset of adult responsibilities”.

So there was much ink last week about the Democrats “repositioning” themselves, “repackaging” their message, trying to “reframe” the issue. Made me feel like “regurgitating” my breakfast.  No principles, just packaging.  Lord, have mercy!
