Deport Them Now

First, a reminder of my pride in America’s immigrant heritage, from a previous post.

The recently defeated immigration bill was an insult to all those who are standing in line, playing by the rules, acting in good faith and expecting they will be treated in good faith. The campaign waged by the bill’s supporters was an insult to those who opposed it in good faith, vilifying them as xenophobic racists. One of the most outrageous accusations was that opponents were advocating for an America where jack-booted Federal INS storm troopers would kick down the doors of peaceful suburban homes and drag daddy Diego away in front of his screaming family, when his only sin was to have sought, and found, a better life for himself and his children. All those years of peaceful, law-abiding (not even a traffic ticket!) life toiling at low-paid work that Americans don’t want to do- all that counts for nothing to those heartless, cold-blooded, reptilian… Republicans!

Okay, Diego is the myth, here is the reality… and here… and here… and- well, you could spend an edifying, if disturbing and revolting day researching it yourself. The truth of the situation is appalling- literally tens of thousands of illegals with lengthy rap sheets pass through our legal system so quickly that the spinning doors kick up a cooling breeze. Predators free to return to the community without ever facing deportation, free to kill, maim, and mutilate the lives that Americans won’t. Not only is it hard to believe such a situation exists, it’s hard to believe how it can be tolerated.

I have no idea how it came to this, but I’m guessing that it isn’t “known and tolerated” so much as it is “unknown and unimagined”. That has got to change. Forget about Diego- first let’s deal with the monsters in our midst. Deport the criminals first . Anyone care to raise an objection to that? To argue that perpetrators such as those described here deserve a “path to citizenship”? Remember, among the amendments proposed to the immigration bill, amendments that were opposed or ignored by it’s backers, was a provision to exempt felons from eligibility for the “Z” visa. How can anyone possibly oppose that?

It’s time for follow-up, folks. This is a real simple concept to grasp, and here is where you can start:

Perhaps your Senators or Congressmen are among those saying there’s nothing that can be done now that the bill was defeated. Nonsense. A Congress with an approval rating lower than the President’s is in dire need of confidence-building with it’s constituents. As has been said before- “Start with what we’ve got”. Enforce the laws that are on the books, and-

Deport the criminals first .
