I was browsing for other Orthodox blogs, found “Orthodixie”, and discovered this heartwarming story. Maybe you’ve been blessed to have experienced something similar to this in your life. Such incidents don’t make the news- the Devil gets all the headlines, as they say- so we never know how many times each day around the world [...]

Efforts to resurrect the omnibus immigration legislation monstrosity have failed. It would be nice to see serious, specific proposals for fixes to specific elements of the problems that need addressing, as well as a confidence-building demonstration of the government’s willingness to actually enforce the laws it passes.
Don’t hold your [...]

This is the title of a recent post at Blackfive, which is well worth your time to read. Whether you agree or disagree with the war- but especially if you disagree- at least have the intellectual integrity to have read and become knowledgeable about the topic so that the opinions you voice will be worth [...]

Regarding Fred Thompson, by a South Carolina voter, in an Associated Press article:
“To be honest with you, it seems to be a personality thing,” said Wyndham Owens, a 57-year-old builder from Wagener, S.C., who votes Republican. “From what little I’ve seen, he seems to be conservative, yet not stupid.“
Okaaaaay! Coming soon to a bumper sticker [...]

Ever since I wrote my earlier post on global warming I’ve wanted to follow up with a clarification, which is… anti-environmentalism does not equal anti-environment.
Conservatives are (ought to be) naturally (pun intended) conservationists and pro-environment. Teddy Roosevelt is an oft-quoted source for this tradition: “the nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as [...]

I agree completely with Tom Rose’s article in the Weekly Standard regarding the pseudo-sophisticated nonsense being heard this week about the best way for the U.S. and Israel to exploit the Fatah-Hamas conflict. Some excerpts:
“After [Fatah's] 45 years of ground work preparing for Hamas’ takeover by radicalizing Palestinian society through blood-curdling terrorism, mind-boggling corruption, [...]

Sadly, sadly, it has become believable.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, 2d in line to the Presidency, has had a photo on her official web site accompanying a post about how much the Democrats care about our troops and how the Dems are going to treat them better than the Republicans have.
Only problem is… that’s [...]

Just discovered this one: NumbersUSA. Information-dense, action-oriented, bi-partisan, and human-centered. “News you can use”, as they say. Highly recommended.

“Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more…” (Shakespeare, Henry V).
So the fix is in, as they say; deals have been offered, pressure brought to bear, and certain knees are gone a’wobbly. The immigration bill is scheduled to be brought to the Senate floor again this coming week. The proposed compromises change [...]

Every wonder what kind of hobbies psychologists have? Me neither! But if I did, I’d probably guess things like rare book collecting, opera, growing orchids, or painting watercolors. If they were of the extroverted variety, maybe community orchestra or theater.
Well, I have a neighbor who’s a psychologist. I’ll call him Dwight, since everyone else does. [...]
